Cubanim
Cubanim is a transversal video jockey project to make accessible VJ tools to the group of music "Kube", which all the members are in a situation of handicap.

Product, spatial, and interaction designers collaborated to create a tangible object.
Tests
Considering our users are using wheelchairs and have overall restricted movements, user tests were essential.

Physical
The tangible object had to be handled by the hand or the chin. After some tests, the movement of rotation seemed the easiest to put in practice by the members of the group. We chose to use wood with soft edges to prevent any potential harm due to uncontrolled or unprecise movement.

Numerical
Each cube represents one parameter of the chosen animation. For that, we used the principle of picture targets and augmented reality (AR) with Vuforia in Unity.
Like that, one cube might represent the base animation, another the speed, or the size, the color... A simple camera was recognizing the different picture targets in front of the VJ, and the result of the association of the cubes was projected in real time on stage.

What about personalization?
We now have multiple cubes that we can apply on a wooden base to rotate. Every cube is removable to modify the parameter we want to interact with during the representation, and the base is clippable on a wheelchair.
For the Video jockey to prepare the show before the representation, we made the project open source on GitHub. The VJ can create his image/particle on unity, then associate it with a card to imagine more modifications, interactions or themes. After that, the performance is ready!
